Macklin belong's to the Greenhead Health District which is part of the Heartland Regional Health Authority which is approximately 41,351 square kilometers in size and has a population of 46,127. (Source: Sask Health 2002) They handle approximately 2,500 calls annually. There are a total of 180 staff comprising of casual, part-time and full-time personnel including:

    The following is intended to provide you with important information regarding health services availability in Macklin and how to access those services.

    St. Joseph's Health Facility does not have emergency services

    Local EMS or a neighboring EMS unit will be immediately dispatched and will transport you to the nearest facility providing 24/7 emergency services while providing the emergency care you need.

    If you have questions in regards to your health or the health of a family member:

    You will speak to a Registered Nurse regarding non-emergency health questions. They can also provide advice and help you to decide if you should call 9-1-1- to access an ambulance or go to the nearest hospital emergency room.     Physician Services

    The Nurse Practitioner provides physician services at the Macklin Medical Clinic on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30- 4:30, Tuesday and Thursday 12:30-4:30. For an appointment please call:

    Outpatient Services

    Scheduled outpatient procedures such as biopsy’s, suture removal, lesion/ wart removal, injections and blood pressure monitoring are available at the Health Centre. To schedule please call:

    Diagnostic Services

    Laboratory and X-ray services are available at St. Joseph’s Health Centre on Monday- Friday from 0830 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (Any changes to times will be available at both the Dr. Clinic and St. Joseph’s Health Facility)

    Home Care Services

    Home Support Services are available 3 days/week and Nursing Services are available 5 days/week in Macklin and area. To arrange for Homecare Services with a Client Care Coordinator please contact:

    Volunteer Services

    Access to volunteer services is thru the Volunteer Services Coordinator at St. Joseph’s Health Center ext. 235. Wellness Clinics are held in Macklin monthly on the first Wednesday. Please call the St. Joseph’s Health Center for appointments.

    Long Term Care Services

    St. Joseph’s Health Center has 22 Long Term and Alternate Level of Care beds (including Respite and Palliative care). For inquiries/assessments please call the Client Care Coordinator at:

    Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Services

    An Occupational Therapist provides one scheduled clinic day/month at the St. Joseph’s Health Center. For appointments please call:

    • Unity and District Health Center: 228-2666 ext. 2981- Occupational Therapy

    A Physiotherapist is also available at Rosetown Community Services (882-6413 ext.285)

    Dietitian Services

    Dietitian services are available monthly at the St. Joseph’s Health Centre. For appointments please call:

    Mental Health and Addiction Services

    • The Community Mental Health Nurse visits Macklin as needed.
    • The Adult Mental Health Counselor visits Macklin as needed.
    • Addictions Counselors are available in Macklin as needed.

    Public Health Services

    The Public Health Nurse visits Macklin once a week and provides a clinic in the facility as well as immunizations in the school and community as needed. The Public Health Nurse also provides car seat clinics, prenatal classes, postnatal visits and breastfeeding classes.

    If you are travelling abroad you can contact the Travel Nurse for information regarding any alerts, vaccines needed or general consultations.

    The Public Health Inspector is based in Unity and does regular visits to Macklin and by request.
